Prompt Response: Society back then loved smoking. Now, today, we as a whole in America hate it more than ever. There are things called sin taxes put on cigarettes and other products because of how we view them. It used to be a normalized thing, smoking inside on airplanes, in restaurants, etc. In today's world, you must be 21 in America a you can't do it inside public buildings or airplanes. Kids back in the day would even smoke it was pushed by doctors as a health product.

Summary: Society back then loved smoking.
